Year 5 - Hackney School of Food

Year 5 had a fantastic school trip to the Hackney School of Food, where they learned new skills and worked together to make delicious Moroccan kofta. They learned how to be safe in the kitchen, chop and dice vegetables, and the science behind making food taste great. They carefully chopped courgette, shallots and bell peppers, before grinding tomatoes, olives and herbs into a rich paste. The children shaped their own kofta and learned how to caramelise the meat in the pan, before combining the sauce and vegetables to finish off the dish. After the meat was fully cooked, they served their creation over some couscous they had dressed with pomegranate seeds, lemon juice, and chives. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, independence, and teamwork, and we know how proud they are of what they've created.
