First we watched videos and did some research about six natural disasters: flood, hurricane, volcano, earthquake, heatwave and tsunami.
The we worked in pairs to build a house out of different materials: lego, playdoe, cream crackers and jenga blocks.
We shook the tables to simulate an earthquake and observed which houses survived the force of the earthquake.
We poured water on each of the houses to see which would survive the flood.
We discussed what effect floods and earthquakes may have on real houses and people.
