The children have had a fantastic time exploring the garden as the season changes. They learned about Autumn and all the different seeds that can be found now in the garden and the park. The children found and felt the shiny, hard conkers and collected tiny alder cones to use to make ink for next week.
The children noticed the leaves changing colour and enjoyed collecting some of these to make prints, using their veiny sides. They cut around their prints and made decorations with them, practising scissors skills and learning how to use a hole punch. Other leaves were used to thread onto string to make autumn leaf garlands.
There are many mini beasts in the garden and the children were thrilled to find centipedes. They talked about their many legs, their habitat and who else might be in their centipede family. The children also discovered a big green frog under a log and everyone had a close look at it. They were interested to watch it breathing and were excited to see it jump very high, very quickly!
